Search Stemming is a process where the endings of some words are stripped off to facilitate a search that returns results including related words, such as ‘kick’, ‘kicks’ ‘kicking’, ‘kicked’ etc. The default behaviour in the SharePoint UI is for stemming to be disabled.

Here is how to turn on Search Stemming in SharePoint 2010.

1. Go to Results.aspx on your Search Center and Edit the Page.

2.  Edit the ‘Search Core Results’ web part.

3.  Check the bx next to ‘Enable Search Term Stemming’ under ‘Results Query Options’

That’s it you will now see search results for related words.
